General Inquires
How much does an eye examination cost?
In Scotland the NHS funds a basic eye examination at set intervals for all UK residents. We offer an enhanced eye exam to include an OCT scan for £20.00, this gives us a comprehensive look at the layers at the back of your eye. A fully private exam costs £75.00.
How long is my appointment?
Your eye examination will generally take around 50 minutes. We usually recommend allowing 1 hour and 30 minutes for your eye examination, any scans and frame styling.
Do you provide children's eye examinations?
Yes, we are more than happy to see children for routine eye examinations from the age of 3 and sooner if you have concerns. We have a great range of children’s frames, specialising in Tomato glasses for younger children.
Can you dispense complex and high prescriptions?
Our experienced dispensing team is highly skilled in managing high and complex prescriptions. We will guide you through the latest lens technologies to optimise your vision and ensure your spectacles are as clear and comfortable as possible.
Do you fit contact lenses?
Yes. While we specialise in spectacles, our optometrists are highly skilled and experienced in fitting a wide range of contact lenses. Whether you’re trying lenses for the first time or are an existing wearer seeking ongoing care, our team is here to support you. A contact lens aftercare is £45 and a new fit is £60.
Do you take prescriptions for glasses from other opticians?
Yes, we do accept prescriptions from other opticians. Please do contact us and we will be happy to book a consultation with one of our dispensing team to talk through the best options for you and your prescription.
Wheelchair accessible?
Yes. In addition to our first floor, we have examination rooms on the ground floor. All dispensing appointments are located on the ground floor too.
Where Do I Park?
The closest parking to Helensburgh Eyecare is the Sinclair Street carpark, where it is free to park for the first 2 hours with a Pay and Display ticket. There is also a free car park at the waterfront. Accessible parking is available on the street at East Princes Street just outside the practice.
Where are you in Helensburgh?
We have regular bus links to most surrounding areas and the train station is located adjacent to us on East Princes Street offering trains every half hour through Glasgow to Edinburgh.
